BAND LAUNCHES MOVIE-INSPIRED 2020 CALENDAR
Exhibition of the thirteen original calendar photos by Paul Bock staged at The Loft
Our 2020 calendar – with the theme ‘Haddington Pipe Band at the Movies’ – is now available, after a launch on Saturday 28 September at The Loft. An exhibition of the photos taken for the calendar can now be seen at The Loft, in the town’s Peffer Place, which will stage the show until January 2020.
The thirteen original shots for the calendar have been taken this year by Edinburgh-based photographer Paul Bock.
“We decided on a slightly different approach this time round, and we’ve certainly had a lot of fun putting these shots together,” said the band’s Alastair Bruce.
“Our inspiration was iconic film posters, so, working with Paul, we have recreated and re-interpreted thirteen well-known posters and given them all a piping and drumming twist, with band members taking the starring roles.
“We’ve also put a spin on the titles and the other text which featured on the originals.”
Among the posters drawn on for the photos are Local Hero, Chariots of Fire, Braveheart, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Godfather, Trainspotting, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and The Sound of Music.
“It’s a pleasure to pay tribute to Paul Bock, who has done an absolutely fantastic job with the shots,” said Alastair Bruce. “His creativity was unbelievable. Aimee Colley of Shaw Marketing and Design also did a terrific job creating the artwork and Lori Walker was a huge help in turning band members into film stars with her make-up skills.
“Of course, the real stars are the band members themselves!
“We are also extremely grateful to the many businesses and organisations who have very kindly sponsored the production. Their support is invaluable.”
The calendar is now on sale for £5 at various shops and other outlets – including the Loft – locally. It can also be purchased online (£5 plus postage and packing) by emailing calendar@haddingtonpipeband.co.uk.
All funds raised from this calendar will be used to pay for tuition, instruments, uniforms and other initiatives which help the band to develop and make a positive contribution to the town and the community.
